Atn Ra Molly (b.1989, Amsterdam) is a multimedia artist

based in Amsterdam, currently studying expanded painting

at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.

In his work he explores the urban environment

through a playful and experimental lens, fascinated by

the sense of the unpredictable paths that a big city has to offer.

Unplanned journeys through the urban landscape, without focusing

on the everyday relations to the social environment,

play a significant role in his work. His artistic practice spans a variety

of materials, working methods and scales, such as large-sized,

oil paintings, assemblages, readymades and photographs.

Molly’s expressive and nostalgic oil paintings express the boundaries

between visibilty and imagination.

Through his use of asemic writing as gestural mark making,

his paintings become as figural as they are abstracted,

naive and yet determined. In his readymades and assemblages

he explores the absurdity within our culture by highlighting

waste materials found in the urban environment,

using mostly construction materials and found objects with traces of

nature, industry and time.
